SEE THIS SHOW!!!

Gettysburg this weekend

I have just come from Gettysburg PA. To say that I am completely raw
with emotion does not come close to describing what seeing and
having this new production of this beloved musical does for me. I
was able to see two performances this past weekend on Saturday
afternoon and in the evening. The casting is more youthful this go
around. The younger soldiers in the ensemble all primarily in there
20's some a little older but more youthful. This right off the bat
is so beautiful lending itself to the truth of the faces of war and
youth going hand in hand when young boys go to war to fight. Tell My
Father is superbly sung by a youthful and absolutely breath taking
young man/ his vulnerability clear in his eyes. His stance quiet yet
so powerful that it is amazing. Michael Lanning is as always
stunning as he sings brother my Brother he sets the show and
solidifies it from the first note. Daniel Cooney now the
Southern Captain captivates and kicks some major butt on Old Gray
Coat. The Harmonies on Last Waltz for Dixie are superb. I found that
the new addition of certain songs did not feel new at all. Frank and
company have added a beautiful new duet and though it is a tad pop
sounding the lyrics merge perfectly with the show and Bart Shatto is
like listening to this perfect crystal bell. He is tender and
vulnerable and his rendition of Sarah left me hard pressed to
remember his predecessors. Keith Byron Kirk feels so comfortable and
brilliant in this that you cannot help but catch yourself smiling as
you cry through the most amazing pieces of gospel that I think has
ever been written. The poignant feelings of the enslaved ensemble in
this piece never seizes to stop my breath in my throat. This newest
gathering of the enslaved ensemble is the most amazing group of
individuals. Dave Clemmons and his casting have done as always a
brilliant job of assembling the talent of this show once again. This
show does not have actors it has a family. I could go on but I will
leave you with this go see this musical it is so worth the walk down
memory lane. I feel as if Broadway was now just a sad stepping stone
when I lost this beloved show at its close for it to rise up and
never be forgotten and Gettysburg is proof that something this
amazing can never truly die. I feel vindicated in a way that for the
glory is having its glory and what better a place than historically
rich Gettysburg PA. I toured the battlefields over the weekend the
strains of the music swelling in my heart. If you have not seen this
show yet go and go often. It is good for the soul! Peace and may the
good lord watch over all those who fight to keep us free.
